Today you had a “second birthday” as I stood by your side and helped you start your journey across the Rainbow Bridge with the sun on your back and a breeze through your incredible mane. You were a strong and stoic stallion to the end, and if I could have done anything to save you, I would have. Your cancer grew so fast and aggressive, and I would never let you suffer.

1995 Black Stallion

It was an honor and a privilege.

I only “owned” you for the last five years, but I had admired you for many before that. I feel blessed that you were able to spend the last years of your life with me, and more blessed that you left me with incredible sons and daughters. I will watch over them.

Run free, gorgeous… We will all miss you.

MI Black IceMI Black Ice was one of the few sons of the sensationally talented Serenity Terry, who died young and left just 12 foals. Included in that small group were the good show horses CKH Master Of The Game, CKH Spirited Gift, Ms Tribbey, Mikaela’s The Overcomer, Mikaela’s Eternal Promise, CKH Bold Adventure, and Peggy Alderman’s great park saddle and English pleasure champion C K H Double Diamond. Ice is the only remaining stallion son of Terry, so he is the lifeline to this rare blood. Serenity Terry was out of the blue hen producer Serenity Kimberly, who was the dam of Minion Valentino (sire of Minion Millennium) and Realize.

Black Ice was out of MI Arrion, by Shaker’s Gayfly (by Tas-Tee’s Firefly), and out of HLM Caption (by Long Hill Vigiltor, by Orcland Vigildon), the dam of MI First Love (dam of WCs Man About Town LPS, Pot of Gold and Grand National Champions Tainted Love and Illicit Love), Cy Don’s Mr. Trophy, and the excellent producer MI Footnote (dam of Cy Don’s Mr. Super, Cy Don’s Replica and Cy Don’s Miss Trophy).

As a show horse, Ice was a charismatic park horse who accumulated tricolors in harness and saddle in both the open and amateur divisions at competitive shows throughout the mid-atlantic region and Ohio.

You won’t find a pedigree like this anywhere today. Black Ice was a much needed outcross for the In Command and Masterpiece lines and offered a short back, long upright neck, incredible shoulder and a generous helping of Morgan type and disposition. His last years with us saw a resurgence of interest by breeders and he left us a beautiful legacy of TFF prefixed foals for the future.
